Kitchi Kahniss Retrievers is dedicated to providing quality Gun Dog Training, Obedience Training, AKC Hunt Test Training, and Raising Started Dog's.  We specialize in dog's which live in the house with their families.  We provide dog training services from our small, clean, and disease free facility in Minnesota for (6 months) and Texas for (6 months). We lease or have access to 3000+ acres of land, by traveling back and forth between States really allows our dogs to experience different climate's, terrain & cover to expose them to different hunting situations and scenarios(every State is different). 

This also has given our hunt test clients & gun dogs a huge benefit, as we are able to test year round.  While the other dog's are sitting in their kennels for the winter/summer our dog's have been poundin water all winter long, so by the time hunt test season rolls in, our dog's are tuned and ready to go.  You tell me who has the advantage?  Bottom line is we want your dog to get the best hunting education he/she can get and we want you to feel good about leaving your dog with us and knowing they're in good hands.  Another option, If you have found another pup from a blood line you like, we can raise that pup, house break and start the necessary hunting training to get your pup thru the started dog program.  This will save you money in training fee's down the road and still get a top notch hunting & family dog.

We have daily "pack" runs, where every dog in the facility runs together as a pack, so they can just have fun being a dog.

What We Do

  We raise & train "Gentlemen's Gundogs", dogs that are fired up in the field, but make great buddies/family members in the house.

   We specialize in raising gundog’s that live in the house with their family’s, so yes we house break dog's.  Here at Kitchi Kahniss Retrievers each dog that comes in for training also stay’s in my house.  House training is a major part of what we do.  If you think about it your dog spends more time in the house with your family then he does hunting in the field.  That’s why we spend a good part of your dog’s training working on issues your having in the home.

The best gundog’s I’ve seen are the one’s that behave in the house, because if your dog’s behaving here, he will also behave in your duck/goose blinds(if your dog is bouncing off the walls in your house, chances are he’s doing the same thing in your blinds).  This is why I’ve broken away from a lot of the conventional way’s of training dog’s and designed my own training program's. 

By working on home/blind issues with your dog we are able to carry this training into his field training and vica versa.  While in our training facility, your dog is treated like their my own, this allows me more direct contact with your dog to learn his personality, disposition, attitude, and emotional well being. 

Once this is achieved we then can put a written training plan in place which covers all aspects of obedience, field, and home training.  It’s more work and time training our way, but the results speak for themselves.  Another thing we do that I think is important (besides getting to know your dog) is getting to know my client’s and that’s why we make weekly update calls to our clients advising them of their dogs progress and answer any questions they may have.  By getting to know them helps me to effectively train their dog to fit their families and field needs.  Being 80% of my clientel is out of State (with some of them I have never met face to face) this is very important to keep the report going, which is another reason for the update calls.

Our training facility is not a "traditional" kennel, meaning your dog stays in a 3' x 12' chain link run.  Our dogs live with me, as they do at their homes and each has their own crate.

These training methods, I believe, allow us to give you a more well rounded dog.

2 week dog kamp - send your dog off to kamp to help him/her find inner balance, people socialization skills, other dog socialization skills,  physical fitness, good nutrition, and many other programs.
